My Head Is Up My Blog

So, I'm sitting in the airport for about 6 hours waiting for a flight to get me a little closer to home. It's giving me a lot of time to mull over the past few days at Bloggy Bootcamp (I missed my flight home, so have to re-route through Las Vegas and get home a day late). I have been reviewing my notes and I feel as if I have had my head up my blog for the past year. I haven't been paying attention to what's going on outside of my blog. I've been focusing on writing for my readers, not really gaining new readers or sharing all my content on social media.
By no means do I feel defeated, just slightly deflated; I have to acknowledge that I'm behind-the-times. I know about lots of things but I don't know HOW to use all of them or how to tell you how to implement them in your bloggy life.
What do you wish you knew how to do?

My Blogging Future:

There are a few things I've been considering since I went to Bloggy Bootcamp last year (in St.Louis), and that's two new enterprises. Do you want to hear what they are?

Well, one has a lot to do with beautifying your blog - you know, adding photos and graphic elements (easily and affordably) to make your blog infinitely more pinnable and pretty. The other is a broader scale project that would involve lots of other bloggers and writers. I think we bloggers deserve a magazine about US! It could be about blogging, interviewing bloggers, decor and DIY, crafts, who does what in the blogging industry, lots of gorgeous photos sent in by you...and lots of destination links.

What are your thoughts on these ideas? Does it sound like something that would be worthwhile in pursuing? I'd love to hear your comments.

This week I'm also going to be jumping more into Google+....this is something I think we're all going to have to do!

My bloggy weekend is now extended as I fly home a roundabout way and miss my kiddos for another 24 hours. Can't wait to share all the gritty details with you. Hugs!

  1. First of all - don't be too hard on yourself. It's easy to do that after Bloggy Bootcamp - been there, done that. I love the idea of a magazine for bloggers. You'll do great with whatever you decide.

  3. Blog magazine---thumbs up!

I'm still learning so much about blogging and haven't joined Google+. I am sorry to know that the Google Reader is going away. That's how I keep up with the blogs I joined.

Have you done any posts on changing over to Bloglovin'? A couple of bloggers that I follow have gone that route. And a couple of other bloggers have moved from Google to WordPress.

So much to learn, so little time, and just when you something figured out, it changes. :) That's why I've started following your blog. Hoping to learn more...

    1. Judith, I've gone to Bloglovin for now...here's my short post on it: http://www.blogguidebook.com/2013/03/blog-post.html

But I may switch to something else if I find it...but I'll let you know.

So glad you're with us! Keep blogging!

  4. I follow your blog frequently but do not comment. However, I have to say - go for it!! The magazine would be a big undertaking but well worth it. I, too, would love some guidance about what to do as an alternative to Google Reader. Thanks for all your info.

    1. There are a few to choose from, but Bloglovin is your easiest bet. I wrote a brief post on in here:http://www.blogguidebook.com/2013/03/blog-post.html

  5. I think a blogging magazine is a fantastic idea. I must say, I'd prefer a print magazine over a digital magazine. I sometimes need to get away from the computer because I'm in front of it so much. If it was digital I probably wouldn't purchase it.

    1. Hi Dianne, thanks for your comment! I totally agree with you about a print magazine...I love them. But, right now I wouldn't be able to come up with the funding for a printer.
Here's what I'm thinking...what about on the Kindle or some other kinds of readers? That would be accessible!
Plus, I'm planning on offering the magazine for FREE (at least to start off with). Yay!

    2. I like the idea of free cuz I wouldn't spend the money for another magazine. You can't please all the people all the time.

  6. Hi! I'm a science teacher for grades PK - 4. love the idea of a blog magazine! I like when blogs feature a "Blogger of the Week", I also love the blogger who came up with the Blogging by State list (I love seeing where we're all from!), I also love blogs that feature blogs by topic: science blogs, math blogs, grade 2 blogs, PK blogs, language blogs, etc. etc. Another thing that would be interesting to see is an alphabetical list of elementary teacher blogs - there must be 1000 of them! But to see the list broken down by state/subject/blog name would really help when I need to find some resources. Bloggers could choose to register their blog on the registry. As of now, I do not know of any resource out there that has all this info in one place! If you know of one, please let me know!

    1. Sue, great comment! I totally agree that there should be a nice list of elementary teacher blogs. How would we get the word out to them?

Here at the Blog Guidebook we do have a catalog of sorts...if you look on the left sidebar you can click on Bee in the Guidebook, this is our catalog of blogs that have joined.

To see all the catalogs look in the drop down box where is says Find Yourself. I can definitely add Elementary Teacher blogs to the catalog.

      Thanks for all the ideas!

  7. First of all I love your site! Bummed I didn't get to meet you at BBC. Sorry you missed your flight but I'm sure it did give you lots of time to think over all the awesome stuff we learned. I think I'm still trying to digest it.

Comments are how we stay connected as bloggers. Let us know how you feel and we'll return the favor...stay calm and blog on!!! And guess what? You'll never find Word Verification on our blog...it gets kind of annoying when you can't read what WV wants you to verify right?
