Shortening links

Isn't is so annoying when you want to share a link or URL and it's super long? Enter bit.ly (pronounced "bitlee").
You can copy and paste a very long URL into their field, hit "shorten," and it will shrink it down to something
short and sweet.

For example, we entered this URL:
 http://www.etsy.com/listing/67056715/sweet-owl-printable-valentine-kit

And came out with this:
http://etsy.me/fikIjK

Find them HERE.

**Also, bit.ly is very legit. I recently listened to a great interview on NPR about bit.ly. Twitter uses it, as well as other prominent sites. If you want to know if a bit.ly link is safe, simply add a + at the end of the URL, and find out all kinds of information about that link! It even includes the original URL:

  1. I've been using tinyurl.com for years... nice to know another exists. :-)

  2. These are terrific but people should be hyper aware - yes hyper - that shortened links can contain malware & worse. I have a new policy for my laptop - no clicking on shortened links unless when I hover over the link, it shows text of underlying url.

  3. Great comment Guilia! That is a good reminder to never click on anything that looks odd or that you don't recognize. Sometimes it is safer to directly type in where you want to go.

    Thanks for the reminder!

You can try it with the link we provided in the post. Just add the + at the end to see for yourself.
