I'm thinking of changing the name of this blog...do you think that's crazy? Part of the issue is that I don't want to blog about blogging all the time...there are many other fantastic things to pursue...
Pros - a fresh, new approach, a chance to build a new/better brand, reach out to readers who may be turned off by our current name.
Cons - having to think of an awesome new name, re-branding, re-building the blog, losing current readers and/or pageviews.
I'm sure I'm missing some pros and cons...I would just really love to know what you would do...would you change your blog's name after 4+ years of successful blogging?
Please leave me a comment on your thoughts.
Thanks!
I have been wanting to change the name of my blog FOREVER ... I had started it on a whim and 4yrs later I am still here but the name sucks! I struggle with the decision to change it do to many of the points you've stated!!! What to do, what to do??
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I do is think of names all the time...and they all seem good!
DeleteI am also having this problem! Ah if only blogger would make it an easier transition :( I don't want to loose any of the few readers i already have but the name was really bothering me....I decided to settle for changing it little by little.
ReplyDeleteLittle by little is probably smart...I'm sure there's a way to not lose followers...I need to think on that some more.
DeleteI started my blog on a lark to amuse our grown daughters, but it's morphed into something altogether different. Ranger 911 (there's a story behind the name) sounds more like a park ranger site than a blog for decorating, knitting, antiquing, etc. On the other hand, it's unique in the world of blogs with the words cottage, vintage, chic and the like, so since I'm somewhat of a nonconformist, I think I'll just keep it. It's easy to remember, right? :)
ReplyDeleteI recently found your blog, and it's been very helpful in some visual changes I made to mine. Thanks so much and good luck with your decision! And yes, in your case I think I'd go for the change to broaden your scope of readers.
I love the name you have! I have a personal blog called Different Dog, and I think it confuses people a lot...ha ha...thank you for your kind comment about this blog...I do have a soft spot for it...I'm just tired of the technical challenges when it comes to writing tutorials on the new blogger format...very laborious!
DeleteHow about starting a second blog if you have enough content? If not, add what you would like here, even if it's not about blogging, we are sure to love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea! Another blog! Ahhhhhh! Not sure about the actual doing of this...but it could happen. Thanks for your comment Tannis!
DeleteI have been toying with changing my name also. Fishcreekstudio- I love it as it was named after a local nature preserve that I use frequently. When I started thinking possibly about a more commercial use I found that someone else owns the domain :( Now how to change it slightly or do I just go for the gusto and rebrand all together. It is not specific to my content which is usually quilting/creative stuff. Also considering a switch to wordpress? It just became overwhelming Decisions, decisions therefore I have done nothing and pretty much moved over to IG and blog rarely now but would like to get back into it. - much more personal than IG.
ReplyDeleteI teach blogging and getting the name you want is the tricky part! I'd get all the names you want then decide - you can also link the new blog (or redirect it here) - you have a loyal following like me! (You're under my Faves on http://gccblogblog.blogspot.com)
ReplyDeleteI changed my name a year ago and let me tell you what a nightmare it was. Not just for my blog but my social media sites. Starting over with ZERO was not my idea of fun. So, give that some thought when you want to change the name of your blog. Would I do it again...heck NO!!
