Would You Blog For Coffee? {Make Money Blogging Series}

When it comes to making money blogging, the success stories seem plenty but the odds are stacked against you. Blogging for an income isn't as easy or forthcoming as some websites (who are trying to do the same thing) would like you to believe.

I didn't start out blogging with the intent of making money. I just needed someplace to store my thoughts, aside from my nightly journal, so that I could look back in reference. (That's a whole other story for another time, but you can read the gist of it here.)

Then the pressure hit me. It seemed like everyone around me was either opening an online boutique, selling their wardrobe, or offering ad space at prices that were ridiculously over-priced. Do people really pay for that stuff? my self-doubting part of me asked. Yes, yes they do.

So started my year long journey of figuring out where I fit in the "blogging for money" world. What did I have to offer that was of monetary value? I found that everything I'd set out to blog about, every message I felt I was meant to be a good steward of, wasn't fitting into that category.

Then, in my routinely blog-through-hour, I found a girl that gave her readers the opportunity to buy her a cup of coffee if they enjoyed her site.

GENIUS!

So from then on, I customized her idea for the following reasons:

  • I was spending $75/month, way too much money on my coffee shop endeavors, mostly to blog.
  • I love coffee.
  • It gives people a cheap inexpensive way to say thank you.
  • People you love (and who love you) will read your blog. I got a cup from my aunt once ;)
  • Your creativity doesn't stifle because of your income. No strings attached.

I understand it is a dream job to blog for your income, but until then, why not have fun and enjoy some cyber friendship?

The Way I Do It
I have a button on the bottom of my footer, as well as after each post, that says: "This blog brought to you by coffee, would you like to buy me a cup?"

That link takes them to a post I wrote on why I blog for coffee and a Paypal page I set up, just like a purchase, with the "donation" button with suggested amount of $3. *You can customize that to however much your daily cup of coffee is.

That's it! Easy peasy.

Now go get you some coffee girl~
