Blogger Bugs and Glitches

Below are some bugs in the Blogger system that we've noticed in our everyday use of Blogger's platform. Please add yours in the comment system (if you can...ha ha ha!)

1. Can't add links on some Pages...(unresolved)

2. If you like to pre-date your posts, you can't immediately see your post after publishing. You have to grab the Permalink (which is easy to forget) and paste it into your browser. This was not an issue on the Old Blogger interface. (unresolved)

3. Have to use more clicks to change your post schedule... (unresolved)

4. Many bloggers have contacted us saying they are having trouble with the commenting system on their blogs. Some are unable to leave comments. Some are finding that their blog isn't allowing comments.
Resolution: for those commenting your browser needs to be able to accept third party cookies. Update your browser to allow this. For those not getting comments, try changing from an embedded comment system to either of the other options.

5. We've had several bloggers unable to log into their blogs. (resolved)
Resolution: make sure you log in with the correct email address, or it will look and feel like you've lost your blog.

What are your peeves? We'd love to hear and maybe come up with some answers!

  1. I've had issues with #1 and #2.

I had a couple of issues and some were fixed:

-I wasn't able to upload photos at one point and I had to use tinypic.
-I couldn't add links to my blogroll.
-Some photo links would be broken but the next day the photo would show up.
-"Don't track your page views" clearly doesn't work for me.

  3. I've had a couple of readers complain about how slow it takes to load my blog. I'm not sure what to do about it and yet I can totally understand why people would be driven away from a page that takes so long to load! I've looked up a couple of tutorials online but they're either full of coding language or simply don't work. I'd love help in this area if possible.

    1. Larissa, I went to your blog and it loaded in about 2 seconds (or less). It could be your readers' error (not updating browsers, web speed etc.).
Check out how fast your blog loads by going to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/yslow/

      Good luck!

  4. My biggest Blogger peeve is when I update my sidebar blogroll widget and sooner or later, it somehow reverts to an older version of my blogroll and all those updates (deleted old blogs, tried to make blog titles consistent with upper/lower case, etc) I did are gone. This has happened three or four times (I'm a slow learner or in denial or both) despite me saving it over and over so I've given up on it. (unless you have a solution?) Thanks! -amy

  5. PS At some point I was having trouble adding new blogs to my blogroll and replying to comments but I switched browsers (from explorer to chrome) and that seemed to solve those issues.

    1. Yes, updating your browser is the best bet. I'm unsure why your blogroll wouldn't update. How long has that been happening? You might want to go to the Something is Broken forum: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/blogger/something-is-broken
You can do a search for your issue and see what some of the answers are there.

      Good luck!

  6. To change the background image I have to completely rebuild my entire template. They should really fix that non-sense!

    1. What is your URL Amanda Jayne? That shouldn't be happening, unless there's a bad tag of somesort...check out http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/blogger/something-is-broken and search for your issue. Maybe some others are having a similar issue.

    1. Make sure your images aren't too large and pixelated (fuzzy and out of focus) on your blog. Make sure they are .jpg and/or .png files so they show up as photos on your blog.
You have an image heavy blog so that could lengthen your blog upload time for readers...beware of that as they tend to get bored quickly and move to the next thing.

      Good luck!

  9. I started my blog in November 2012 and started on Blogger. I never had any problems and will always remember Blogger fondly. I just switched to WordPress because of the owner content issue with Blogger. My blog is now self host via WordPress.org. So far so good. There are literally hundreds more free customizable templates. There are a few things I like about Blogger better, but for the most part I am happy with the switch. Collar City Brownstone is my Blog.

    1. I hear you Collar City Brownstone! I daily debate whether or not to switch to Wordpress. My main issue is that we blog about Blogger - a lot. So switching to Wordpress would pretty much cause us to change our entire blog focus...but you never know, it could happen. Keep blogging!

  10. My pet peeve is being unable to remove old blogs from my blogroll. I like to keep my blog updated and fresh and some of the blogs I was following haven't posted in over a year. All I want to do is remove them and it gives me a repeated error message!

  11. My biggest problem is formatting my blog. I like to have a space between each paragraph, but sometimes when I preview the post one space in the document is three spaces in the preview. It's really obnoxious. Another similar problem is when I try to put pictures in where I want them, they'll often load elsewhere in the post and it's difficult to drag them where I want them. It makes me want to switch to Wordpress.

    1. Yes I agree. Sometimes you have to go into the HTML tab and check to see if Blogger added some extra code. Very annoying.

  12. For the last couple weeks, I have been running into the WEIRDEST glitch on my blogs. I find that I can upload 2 IDENTICAL files, and they show up looking different. Sometimes I'll remove one version of an image with an updated one, and inexplicably, the new one will be MUCH darker, even though in other programs (Photoshop, Super JPG viewer) it looks the same. I've even uploaded the IDENTICAL file onto 2 different pages of the blog, and they look very different between the 2 pages. HOW CAN THIS BE? What the hell is going on?

It's getting so I can't even trust uploading an image to look at to doible-check what it "really" looks like anymore...

  13. Just spent 2 hours making a blog post on Blogger, was almost done, had been repeatedly saving, hit control z to undo a very small action I just made, DELETED the WHOLE THING. Just poof! white page, nothing left except the title and the tags.

Another thing I noticed was adding videos can be tricky. I would add embedded code to the html, and if I add another video down the line, the first one just gets removed. not just visually, but the code is just gone from the html page too with seemingly no reason.

  14. I had to post something for class on a blog the day before it was due, and it posted a day later. Weird. Now it's late. Hooray for Blogger!!!!

Comments are how we stay connected as bloggers. Let us know how you feel and we'll return the favor...stay calm and blog on!!! And guess what? You'll never find Word Verification on our blog...it gets kind of annoying when you can't read what WV wants you to verify right?
