Comment Problems

We agree that Word Verification and Captcha hinder readers leaving comments under blog posts.

Q: If a visitor to your blog can't leave a comment, what should you do?

A:  Readers need to have third party cookies enabled in their browsers in order to leave a comment in the embedded comment form. To make it easier for your readers, you could choose one of the other types of comment form (full page or popup).

I searched around the web and found some interesting data on commenting with Blogger blogs...here are some of the notes:

I attempted a test comment on the blog - with some difficulty.  The blog uses an embedded comment form, with authentication (Google / OpenID) required, and CAPTCHA ("word verification") screening.
The CAPTCHA being used by Blogger is a nasty accessory.  You should maybe try logging out of Blogger as the owner, then see if you can publish a comment as a blog guest - and see for yourself if you think your readers will appreciate the challenge.  It took me over a dozen tries, to get my test comment to publish - and I have experience in dealing with the CAPTCHA.  Remember - as the blog owner, you never have to use a CAPTCHA when posting comments.

Another possibility is cookie / script filtering.  The best known culprit is the browser "third party cookies" filter - though there are other browser settings - and there may be other filters on the computer.

[FAQ] Why can't people post comments on my blog?

This post is a few years old, but it makes a lot of sense to me:

Using Dynamic templates:

If you have one of Blogger's Dynamic templates you may not have the ability to allow commenting. So if you switch to Dynamic, don't be surprised if your commenting is gone.
This is a Blogger bug, that I believe is in the works.

We'll be posting more tidbits on COMMENTING when we come across the info.

  1. I just found your blog and have not had a chance to read much of it but already confused about Google+ and Google Reader and Bloglovin'...what is all this about? When I Google my blog it says Angelestyleblogspot.com so do I need to be on Google+??? Also I want to know the benefits of Instagram? I alreday know I do not want to be on Facebook or Twitter because I am not trying to sell anything or make money with my blog UNTIL I come up with a unique idea to sell. Does this make sense?

  4. Hi,

My commenting question is why is that all of a sudden, in the past month or so, when I leave a comment anywhere, does it no longer show my Blogger profile picture? It shows a blank space. Why? Any idea what I can do to fix this? I noticed when I followed your blog tonight, it did the same thing. It shows me as a blank space with no image.

I hope you can give me some ideas. Thanks!

P.S. I'll be working on some bloggy buttons tonight or tomorrow thanks to your site. Can't wait!

  5. I'm not sure if this is the right spot to ask a question that is not really under a category. But I have had the most awesome and amazing friends on Facebook leave comments about my blog or someone special to be designed an art work from fractured moon art that wrote the story about the art which describes about how she's loved to see me blossom and grow and is like a big sister and so on that it's all mine she won't sell or or copy it. So is there a way to share it on my blog or do I link it to my blog? I've inspired and have been receiving such amazing things about my blog but no one has subscribed to it which I'm not worried about that because I have not yet got an email or newsletter started but my views are amazing in only since I started it on the first of the year (6000 views.)

Comments are how we stay connected as bloggers. Let us know how you feel and we'll return the favor...stay calm and blog on!!! And guess what? You'll never find Word Verification on our blog...it gets kind of annoying when you can't read what WV wants you to verify right?
